The Apple Butter Festival in Berkeley Springs, WV was first held in 1974 as a celebration of community and a way to honor the Appalachian tradition of making apple butter to preserve the apple harvest for the colder months. The festival also serves as a sort of homecoming over the annual holiday weekend in October. Each year, the Morgan County Chamber of Commerce works hard to ensure that the event is a success for vendors and enjoyable for the crowd of 40,000 people that comes into town.
